Here comes Susan Boyle!!

What is with this insane hype surrounding Susan Boyle!

A week ago, Susan Boyle's video was at the top of the most viewed video's on YouTube with about 1 million, and i watched it(Btw, now there is around 50 million total views). My reaction was normal, you know, no one expected her to do well becuase of her looks and she blew the roof off the house with her voice. It was a very encouraging video to watch, quite uplifting as well.

But it is the attention that she is getting now that is truly astonishing. This is no simple american idol performance. Susan Boyle means something to a lot of people now. I've been reading  people's reaction around the internet to her perfomance, and it really is something else to see how emotional people got over her performance. Susan never really got a good chance to do something with her voice becuase her looks really gave off a wrong impression. She confessed that in her 47 year old life she has never been kissed. There is something amazing about Susan Boyle because automatically after watching her brief performance your heart is with her. And as cheesy as it sounds it's true, it's pretty emotional to see the change from before the performance when people didn't believe in her strictly because of her looks, and she blew everyone away. In addition to that tale of it's own, her performance also shows, that even if your 50 years old, don't give up your dream. It's the classic, "Don't judge a Britain's got Talent participant by their face."

I want to hear how people felt when watching Susan Boyle's performance. You can vote for the description on the right that best matches your feelings at the time.

And if you haven't seen the video yet, your probably living in a cave, but here it is anyways...

Top five websites you've probably never heard of

So a couple of weeks ago i was told by  friend to check out the site www.stumbleupon.com. The premise of the site is simple, but it's one of the coolest sites i've come across in a while. You make an account, you fill out some information that you want other people to see, like Facebook. Then they want you to fill out a form of all your interests, say for instance, you love football, alternative music, illusions, and stock market news. You can fill out however many interests that you want, out of about 1000 different choices. Once you fill out your interests, you click the stumble button on the top left of the browser, and this site brings you to the most popular sites that resemble your interests. When you like a site that you find, you click the "i like it" button (very original) and it stores the site as one of your Favorites on your profile. Every time i click the stumble button i find something ridiculously cool that i have never before seen on the net. You should check it out.

Anyways, out of the 25 favorites that i have, i'm picking the top 5 sites that i think are worth sharing. Most of them are useless, but then again, so are most sites on the net. As i find more sites, i'll post ones that are worth sharing on the blog.

This is amazing. I hate Green Day beyond belief, but this is really funny. A mother, upset about the lyrics used in Green Day's album sends a letter to the band complaining. Just read it to see Green Day's response.

A bunch of cool pictures of different faces on random objects. No need to explain what it is, just check it out.

For all the wannabe DJ's out there, this is a pretty cool toy that someone made up, where you create your own beats.

Pretty useless video but entertaining nonetheless. It's a classic stomp, with about 40 people, but visually it's pretty cool looking.

JustHearIt is an extrememely usefull site, its insanely cool looking, and basically you search for a song that you want to listen to, and you can listen to the entire thing for free. I haven't yet typed in a song into the search that it couldn't find.

"Shotgun": The most overused word on the planet

I hear the word shotgun every single day. When i go to school, when i go to my friends house, ANYWHERE i go i hear the word, and i hate it. It summarizes the type of people many of us have become on this planet (including me). We shotgun things to make it easier on ourselves, sort of guaranteeing ourselves of something in most cases. We do this to avoid conflict and get what we want or like. The word shotgun is a direct result of how our society functions today. For instance, i will focus on technology; Isn't the reason for creating new technologies and gadgets to make our lives easier?

A couple months ago i was introduced to the future of remote controls. I was shown a remote that can turn on every god damn thing in your house. Could you imagine if you had to turn on the DVD player AND the TV! how ridiculous would that be! Or how about this? Remember when humans used to make fires with sticks and stones and they burned WOOD? We'll now all we have to do is flip a switch and we get the instant satisfaction of a nice warm cozy fire burning through tanks of gasoline. Oh wait, the new fire places don't have switches, that's too difficult, they come with 55 different remotes to scatter all over the house so that you never have to move an inch to enjoy you freshly burnt gas.

The fact is, it doesn't seem as though we were supposed to have all these gadgets and technologies that make our lives so easy, it just doesn't feel right. And i know that as long as we advance our technologies we will create things that will make our lives easier. By 2015, you wont ever have to get out of your chair at the office, they will all be hydrogen powered (Could Happen). So when i hear the word shotgun, i refer to all the laziness that we are. I avoid the word, although it does slip out sometimes, it's important that i consciously don't say it.

Because i despise the word, I am going to make a promise to myself, as a New Years resolution to not say the word shotgun for the entire year of 2009. If i say it then i am just breaking my own promise which sucks. BUT i will still use my universalized remote to turn on anything i want in my house, just because I've already fallen into the trap of laziness that is society and technology.
