James Cameron's Avatar: The biggest movie of all time.

Titanic, Dark Knight, Spiderman UH OH!!

Avatar is a Science Fiction film releasing december of 2009, about aliens. In addition, it's in 3D! well, haven't we waited to see aliens in 3D!!? The truth is, i believe that if Cameron succeeds, and in this particular case, he must deliver where no other film has, in creating a "believable" species of alien, this film will shatter everything that stands in it's way.

- Everyone has different views, there are some people who really don't think about life in space, and some that are completely fascinated by just the thought of it (like me). I'm always curious to what alien species would look like. Are they more advanced than us? If they were more advanced than us, why haven't they found us yet and sent us a message? Maybe they already have.

-Ever stare up at the stars, and get that scary realization that we are so puny? that there are billions upon billions of other planets just like ours, and then what are the possibilities that there is in fact life besides earth. I'd say 10000% wouldn't you?

-A crazy, somewhat complex thought crossed my mind the other week, and i think it is worth sharing. Maybe you have thought the same thing, maybe not, because i'm very weird. On Earth, we as humans, and every living species, have a perception of time that is constant. That being that everything lives, and dies. There is an age to everything, and changes occur throughout our experience of time. But in space, there is no time. There is just space, and it has been there throughout eternity. We, as humans find that thought to mash up our brain cells. At least i do. What if there are aliens species in space that have no perception of time? Where life is eternal and the actions of these beings bare no relevance on the constraint of time.

-Sadly enough, no one reading this will have any of these answers, as we have yet to land on Mars (the closest, most insignificant mass of rock in our entire solar system). When the Apollo 11 spacecraft landed on the moon in 1969, people were glued to there TV sets and radios. There is a worldwide interest in space advancements. And therefore obviously a worldwide interest in the possibility of the existence of aliens. That's why, when a massively popular director, such as james cameron creates a movie, in 3D, about aliens, what can possibly be bigger for the movie industry?

-I will always have a massive interest in all things regarding space and alien species. Hopefully in my lifetime we can experience the same type of worldwide excitement that was felt when humans landed on the moon in '69

Here's a cool sort of geeky space vid, interview if your interested.

The 3D movie Fad... What's the point?

FYI: If you look at that image with 3d glasses... the Leopard drools on your face.

I've always said, and I'll quote myself, that "in 15, 20 years, people will not be able to watch 2 dimensional movies."  Whether i believe that statement anymore, i don't even know.

There's always a bit more excitement coming into a movie that is 3d. Recently Pixar Animation studios released a statement sayings that all of their future movie releases will be in 3d. There are some movies that simply are meant for 3d. Kids movies being one and the random action movie that has a ton of flying obstacles being another.  Recently TV networks have started broadcasting Television shows in 3D. NBC's Chuck was broadcasted the day after the Superbowl, and many fans sat in front of their screens with the classic goggles attached to their faces. But the real question is does the 3D experience really heighten your enjoyment at a movie theatre, or watching your favorite show? Since I'm taking economics in University, and all i see all day are formulas, I'm going to create one myself to see if 3D is worth it for me, focusing more on the movies in theatre.

Main Rule: I'm going to add different variables. The variables will be anywhere from -10 to +10, if the final number is above 0, 3D is a worthwhile investment for the movie industry because this formula says so.

Variable 1 (-2):   Extra cost of 3D glasses at theatres ($3)
Variable 2 (-2):  Nauseous feeling after leaving the theatre.
Variable 3 (+6): Improvement of Visual effects.
Variable 4 (-3):  Annoyance of wearing goggles.
Variable 5 (+2): Does it improve the average movie experience

V1+V2+V3+V4+V5 = Legitimacy of 3D movies.

-2 + (-2) + 6 + (-3) + 2= +1

As i expected, there would be no standout decision. There are positives and there are negatives with regard to 3D movies. The only reason that the film industry should lean towards 3D is because it symbolizes change in something that hasn't really changed since color was introduced to the big screen.

Were still waiting for that 3D movie that's going to blow us all away, (Hopefully James Cameron's Avatar), but until that happens, my +1 will remain the same.

We are all Buttons

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button:

I have to say that going into this film, i had some inhibitions that i was not going to be able to withstand the enduring 3 hours of David Fincher's tale. My assumption was quite incorrect though. There was something very magical about this film.

First off, visually the film was stunning. Fincher's job of the age processes of his characters was like nothing i have ever seen before. Every character aged and un-aged :) throughout the film, and even with the technologies that are put into films today rarely do you see perfections with the aging process, this is the first film to reach near perfection.

The magic of this film doesn't come from it's beauty though, but more from it's meaning. The film, in it's entirety, follows the backwards life of Benjamin Button, beginning his life as a baby trapped inside of an old body and ending his life as a old man trapped inside of a baby. At the beginning, the plot sounds somewhat foolish, and quite unrealistic, but the story of Benjamin button paints a huge message about life, and about old and young. It did not matter that Benjamin was born old, because "everybody ends up in diapers". You can do anything with your life, young old, it does not matter. The movie showed that in an old man's body, young Benjamin was still able to do adventurous things. Things that most old people do not even think of doing. Why not live your life for as long as you can? An important line in the movie, while Benjamin was returning to his old home, he said that "it isn't the outside that changes, it's you".

In the film, it is generally shown that older people lose there enthusiasm to do adventurous things, Benjamin's life shows that the ability to have fun as an older person exists, live your life, you can do anything you want to.

Fincher's movies always pack a bag of meanings into them, but this one of all is so truly relevant to everyone and anyone in this world. Age should not stop anyone from doing the things that they enjoy because for Benjamin, the fact that his life was reversed didn't change the fact that he did all he could do within his life. It's a great message from a meaningful movie.
