We are all Buttons

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button:

I have to say that going into this film, i had some inhibitions that i was not going to be able to withstand the enduring 3 hours of David Fincher's tale. My assumption was quite incorrect though. There was something very magical about this film.

First off, visually the film was stunning. Fincher's job of the age processes of his characters was like nothing i have ever seen before. Every character aged and un-aged :) throughout the film, and even with the technologies that are put into films today rarely do you see perfections with the aging process, this is the first film to reach near perfection.

The magic of this film doesn't come from it's beauty though, but more from it's meaning. The film, in it's entirety, follows the backwards life of Benjamin Button, beginning his life as a baby trapped inside of an old body and ending his life as a old man trapped inside of a baby. At the beginning, the plot sounds somewhat foolish, and quite unrealistic, but the story of Benjamin button paints a huge message about life, and about old and young. It did not matter that Benjamin was born old, because "everybody ends up in diapers". You can do anything with your life, young old, it does not matter. The movie showed that in an old man's body, young Benjamin was still able to do adventurous things. Things that most old people do not even think of doing. Why not live your life for as long as you can? An important line in the movie, while Benjamin was returning to his old home, he said that "it isn't the outside that changes, it's you".

In the film, it is generally shown that older people lose there enthusiasm to do adventurous things, Benjamin's life shows that the ability to have fun as an older person exists, live your life, you can do anything you want to.

Fincher's movies always pack a bag of meanings into them, but this one of all is so truly relevant to everyone and anyone in this world. Age should not stop anyone from doing the things that they enjoy because for Benjamin, the fact that his life was reversed didn't change the fact that he did all he could do within his life. It's a great message from a meaningful movie.
